His reaction to Africa and the vast outdoors—both the bush and the sea—inspires Hennie Niemann’s artwork. The young artist’s successful professional navigation of the South African art scene was greatly aided by gallerist Johans Borman, who also received technical instruction from his father, Hennie Niemann senior, and a passion for art history. Despite typically having a figuration-based foundation, his subjects have strong compositional rhythms and harmonies and are angular, facetted, and progressively abstract. The artist presently resides and works out of a studio in Onrus on the Western Cape coast. She has participated in both local and international exhibitions.
