Born in January 1961, Kobus van Schalkwyk is from Gauteng’s West Rand. He pursued a master’s degree in anthropology after studying psychology and anthropology at RAU. Painting was a passionate pastime of his college years. Following his 1982 debut at the Carlton Hotel, he has held exhibitions around South Africa. In 1983, Kobus began teaching art, and in 1990, he established his first gallery in Florida Center. As portrayed in his artwork, he enjoys spending his vacations in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, where he visits charming villages like Struisbaai, Arniston, Napier, and Hermanus.
