Biography
Amsterdam, Netherlands, was the birthplace of Gabriel de Jongh (1913–2004). He was Tinus de Jongh, the landscape artist’s only son. He followed in his father’s footsteps, having him as a mentor and critic. Paintings of landscapes, still lifes, seascapes, wildlife, and religious subjects were created by Gabriel using oil, watercolor, ink, and pencil. In London, he attended the Slade School of Art and the Michaelis School of Fine Art. He was a photo-lithographer for The Cape Times. The Western Cape’s vistas never lost their allure for him, despite his travels across Britain, Europe, South America, and East Africa. Around the world, his pieces can be found in both public and private collections.
