Jean was raised in Zimbabwe during his early years, however he was born in South Africa. He finished his education and received his diploma from the University of Pretoria upon his return to South Africa. His lifelike paintings of African wildlife have gained him a lot of recognition. In his figurative paintings, he uses bold colors and large brushstrokes. Worldwide collections of his artworks exist.
