    Biography

    (1931–1994)
    Lucas Sithole was a South African sculptor most known for his sculptures in stone, metal, and other media, as well as for his work mostly in indigenous woods. He passed away at Pongola, Transvaal, Republic of South Africa, on May 8, 1994. He was born on November 15, 1931, in Springs, Transvaal, South Africa. He was married and had seven children. His parents were Swazi and Zulu. Before leaving Kwa-Thema, Springs, Transvaal, in 1981, he resided close to Pongola, which is where Swaziland and Mozambique meet. He only ever traveled to Lesotho, Namibia, and Swaziland; he never left South Africa.
