Paul Du Toit, 1922-86 Paul painted most of his landscapes in the Cape; though they were simplified to their most basic forms, they were based on real-life vistas in the Little Karoo, Namaqualand, and the Cedarberg. He added his profound awareness of the mystical energies that produced and exist in the terrain, and by eliminating unnecessary landscape features, he was able to evoke the spirit of the landscape in his paintings.
